Ikigai + Monsters

We all have monsters we are running from. At some point there is a monster chasing us that we can’t outrun. It is this monster who will eventually either consume us, or force us to turn around and look that monster in the face. And notice that when you do, that monster loses some of its power. Maybe even goes away.

The fear, the grief, the sadness is swirling around in front of you. But it’s not you. Your breath brings you deep into what is behind all of that.

And on that journey you may notice parts of yourself that need tending to. Perhaps a younger version who is absolutely exhausted from carrying, gripping and trying to hold it all together. And for what?

If you notice her, take her in, hold her tight, stroke her hair and kiss her head. Let her rest on your bosom, may she feel safe. May she sit at your heart centre, eating oranges, becoming stronger again with her face to the sun.

Hello fear, I see you, you are welcome here. It’s okay. I understand. It’s okay.

Hello love. You are bigger than fear. Look up sweet one, look to the light and let yourself grow as you do. Just as a flower blooms under the sun, I see you doing the same.

This last month or so, my body has been asking me to reconnect to a sense of vitality and a sense of me again. I've really felt drawn to both strong rocket practices, and deeply still yin poses. It feels like a rebalancing of my chi, my energy centres, my life force. Sometimes when things aren't going the way you wanted them to go, despondency can kick in, but perhaps they are a real opportunity to go in: Listen, look the monster in the face and then grow through this season.

As always, I'd love to hear from you with any questions or thoughts.

 With love,

 Sarah & Linky
